Does your home feel like you?

We spend a lot of time talking about how our homes look. The colour of the walls. The sofa we’ve chosen. The lighting. The artwork. Whether everything works together.

But something I find just as interesting is how a home feels.

You can walk into a room that looks beautiful and still not quite feel comfortable in it. There might not be anything obviously wrong, but somehow you don't want to sit there for very long. This is something that comes up regularly in conversations within the International Feng Shui Guild. As members, we often discuss how the spaces around us can affect the way people experience their homes and how we can help clients create spaces that feel more supportive and comfortable. And I think there is something really interesting in that.

Our homes are not showrooms. They are where we wake up on Monday mornings, have difficult days, celebrate birthdays, work, relax, eat dinner and sometimes just collapse on the sofa!So shouldn't they feel good to be in?

Sometimes it isn't about changing everything. It might be as simple as looking at a room differently. Is there too much going on? Is there somewhere comfortable to sit? Is the lighting right? Does the room actually suit the person using it?

For me, good interior design starts with those questions.

How does your home make you feel when you walk through the door?

I'd genuinely love to know if other people think about their homes this way, or whether we tend to notice how a room feels only when something isn't quite right.
