Where does your furniture actually want to go?
Have you ever moved a sofa around a room five times and still not been happy with it?
I've definitely seen this happen. We can become surprisingly attached to the idea that furniture has a particular place. The sofa goes against that wall. The bed faces that direction. The dining table sits in that corner because that's where it has always been. But rooms change as our lives change.
Maybe the children have grown up. Perhaps you're working from home now. Maybe you entertain more than you used to, or perhaps you simply want somewhere quieter to sit with a cup of tea.
Furniture placement can make a huge difference to how a room works and how it feels.
This is another subject that comes up in our 3Studio discussions. We talk about how the arrangement of furniture can influence movement through a room, how people interact with one another and whether a space feels comfortable and inviting. And I think this is where Interior Design and Feng Shui overlap quite naturally.
Before buying something new, sometimes it's worth asking whether what you already have could work differently. The big questions to ask are.....
Can you move easily through the room?
Can you sit comfortably without feeling like you're in the way?
Does the furniture encourage conversation?
Is there a natural place to stop and relax?
And perhaps most importantly, does the room work for the way you actually live now?
Sometimes the answer isn't a new sofa. It might just be moving the one you've got.
There is something quite satisfying about rearranging a room and suddenly seeing it differently.
Have you ever moved your furniture around and wondered why you hadn't tried it before? If not, maybe today is the day.....
